Three new Fellows of NIR were announced during NIR-2011, being held in Cape Town, South Africa. They are Ian Cowe, Peter Flinn and Tomas Isaksson.

NIR-2015 will be held in Brazil following a vote of ICNIRS members at NIR-2011. Details of NIR-2013 and ANISG-2012 have also been announced.

Café Colombia, the National Federation of Coffee Growers, in conjunction with the University of La Rioja, Spain, have developed new technology based on NIR spectroscopy to protect the geographical indication of its coffee. NIR can be used to identify the source of coffee both regionally and globally.

The Proceedings of NIR-2009, edited by Sirinnapa Saranwong, Sumaporn Kasemsumran, Warunee Thanapase and Phil Williams has now been published.
