Gerald S. Birth Award

The Council for Near Infrared Spectroscopy has announced that this year’s winner of the Gerald S. Birth Award for best work in diffuse spectroscopy published in 2010—2011 is Dr Michael (Micky) Myrick.

NIR Products at Pittcon 2012

Smaller instrumentation was very much a key trend at Pittcon 2012. This was seen throughout the range of analytical techniques, with compact mass spectrometers, NMRs, ESRs, UV/vis, mid-IR as well as NIR spectrometers. Indeed, the first two instruments featured claim to be the world’s smallest NIR and FT-NIR, respectively.

NIR reflectance spectroscopy for barley digestible energy analysis

A new NIR reflectance spectroscopy calibration is providing barley growers and their customers with a quick and accurate analysis of the digestible energy content of barley. Researchers at the University of Alberta, in collaboration with Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development, have developed a NIR calibration to analyse the digestible energy in barley.
