Ron, I tried to post earlier but it didn't go. You can contact me at [email protected]. I did suggest that you make sure no light is getting into the transport. The error you are getting means too much light is reaching the detectors. Keep the door closed if you have the top door on the transport or put a cup into the transport if you have an open transport. |

Thanks to all. Sheelagh, et al, thanks for getting back to me. The instrument has been out of use for about 8 years. Could you suggest a secure manner to get you my e-mail? I feel a bit exposed to publish it here. I could set up a temporary e-mail for this dicussion if there is not a more simple option. Thanks again for your suggestions and it is good to know that this is an active group. regards Ron |

Hi Ron, I used to work at FOSS, but with Feed rather than Pharma. You suggest a mechanical failure, without further info it can't be ruled out that the specific problem you have might be releated to a software/communication issue. You should check with FOSS, the NIRS 6500 series is still in production so parts are easy to come by. If you plan some serious work you should have it reviewed by a service guy anyhow to ensure that the data is fine. You may also want to upgrade the instrument software, its capabilities have evolved quite a lot over the past couple of years, and the one you have may not be fully compatible with recent Windows versions. |

Hi Ron I don't know what country you are in, but Steve Baldwin, an ex Foss engineer, could give you some advice. If you would like me to send you details, please send your email address and I can put you in contact. Regards Sheelagh |

Ron - I'd say that you should go to the manufacturer. Foss is in business, and while the 6500 is a somewhat older instrument, it's not so old that they won't still have service people who know how to fix it. \o/ /_\ |

Hi all, with the experise I see here i hope someone might be able to point me in a direction to get this resolved. I have an older 6500 that we want to resurrect. We plan to use reflectance. The detector has autogain. When we started it up we confirmed that the lamp was working and the grating is functioning. When we try to perform any function that scans between the visible and NIR region we get an error that statesinstrument response fails, data appears truncated at 65535. We notice that there are two servo motors that move different filters in front of the apperature, one seems to work well we are uncertain of the other. Finally in case it is useful we have a sample transprot witht he ceramic calibration in place and we know that this moves to the correct position when trying to calibrate. Any suggestions, pointers etc would be greatly appreciated. |
