NIR Spectroscopy

NIR Publications is the imprint of IM Publications that specialises in the publishing of periodicals, books and electronic products in NIR spectroscopy and chemometrics.

We publish the peer-review Journal of Near Infrared Spectroscopy, the international newsletter NIR news, a number of books (we also sell a comprehensive list of books on NIR from other publishers around the world) and a CD-ROM version of the Journal of Near Infrared Spectroscopy.

NIR Spectroscopy is widely applied in areas including food and agriculture, pharmaceuticals (where it is an important component of the PAT initiative), medicine, environment and throughout general industry. For an overview of the myriad applications of NIR, see our “Celebration of NIR Spectroscopy” issue below.

NIR-2007 Proceedings

Authors wishing to submit their paper to the special issue of Journal of Near Infrared Spectroscopy (JNIRS) can find details and online submission here. Please ensure that you read the Instructions before writing and submitting: only papers meeting the usual standards for JNIRS will be accepted for publication.

New Book on Diffuse Reflection

A jar of sweets may not appear to be a serious introduction to the attempt to progress the understanding of the challenging nature of what is usually termed “diffuse reflection”. However, this book by the father and son team of Don and Kevin Dahm is the first such attempt since the famous book by Wendlandt and Hecht some forty years ago. The sweets are not only useful models, they also indicate the desire of the authors to make this a readable and entertaining book as well as a very serious attempt to advance our theoretical understanding of this complex and confusing topic.

The Dahms have been developing and advancing a new theory for the last few years. This book brings it together. It explains the nature of reflected radiation and then the problem of finding a mathematical description of it.

EAS NIR Award for Graeme Batten

Editor-in-Chief of JNIRS, Graeme Batten is to receive the 2007 EAS Award for Achievements in NIR Spectroscopy. Congratulations Graeme! 2007 is a good year for our Editors: Gerry Downey received the 2007 Tomas Hirschfeld Award at Pittcon.

NIR Discussion Forum

If you have any questions about NIR or chemometrics, the NIR Discussion Forum is the place to go. A number of NIR experts are regular visitors and are willing to help you with your NIR problem.

A Celebration of Near Infrared Spectroscopy

A Special Issue of NIR news is available for free download. Entitled “A Celebration of Near Infrared Spectroscopy”, it aims to show the wide range of applications of NIR spectroscopy and how it is becoming an ever more important part of everybody's life.

A number of references from NIR Publications' products have also been made freely available and there are links to them from the special issue.

NIR Instrumentation at Pittcon

The S860 hand-held NIR micro-spectrometer from MicroSpectralSensorsA number of the new NIR instruments launched at Pittcon 2007 were small, solid-state spectrometers. More details will be published in our Pittcon Report in the April/May issue of NIR news.

NIR-2005 Proceedings

The Proceedings of NIR-2005 has been published by the organisers. Copies are now available and can be ordered form our online shop.
