Hi All, The International Diffuse Reflection will meet 31-Jul to 06-Aug in Chambersburg, PA. An important part of the IDRC meetings has always been the awards. The prestigious Gerald S. Birth Award is presented for the best paper published in the previous 2 calendar years in some aspect of diffuse spectroscopy. The Award is conferred by the Council for Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (CNIRS) and sponsored by Unity Scientific Corporation, in memory of Dr. Gerald S. Birth. Travel Awards are available for students and scientists who might not otherwise be able to attend. A special Honorary Membership Award to the CNIRS is given to persons who have made exceptional contributions to near infrared spectroscopy over their careers. The Birth Award was instituted in 2004. The previous Award winners are Peter Griffiths, Yukihiro Ozaki and James Burger. Begun in 1987, previous CNIRS Honorary Membership Awards have been presented to Kermit Whetsel, Karl Norris, Fred McClure, Robert Rosenthal, A.M.C. "Tony" Davies, Phil Williams, John S. Shenk and Ed Stark. We invite you to make nominations for these awards. The deadlines have been extended, and are 5-Mar for the Birth Award and 12-Mar for the Travel Fellowships and Honorary Membership Award. The guidelines are given in the attached document or at the website (http://idrc-chambersburg.org/). Best wishes, Dave Hopkins Chair, CNIRS Awards Committee

Greetings NIR Enthusiasts! I hope that all of you are well during this Holiday season. I also want to take this opportunity to remind everybody of the upcoming International Diffuse Reflectance Conference (IDRC), taking place July 31 - August 6, 2010, at Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, USA. From medical diagnostics, to PAT, to terrestrial and extra-terrestrial remote sensing- diffuse reflectance spectroscopy has tremendous relevance today. Furthermore, the IDRC is a particularly effective means for staying on top of this technology: Longstanding tradition: every 2 years since 1982, at the same venue! International collaboration and exposure at a tremendous value! Access to internationally-recognized experts in a wide range of fields: including NIR and FTIR spectroscopy, Chemometrics, Imaging, and PAT! Relaxed, social setting that encourages informal learning and collaboration! When making your plans for technical conferences in 2010, don't forget to consider the IDRC! Check out the First Circular at http://idrc-chambersburg.org/pdf/IDRC2010_circular_WEB.pdf Invited oral presentations and solicited poster presentations will provide great opportunities for presenting your work to a diverse international audience. In addition, the website (http://idrc-chambersburg.org/) content will be updated frequently as more program details become available. Finally, please feel free to contact me directly at [email protected] if you have specific questions. I look forward to seeing you in Chambersburg this summer! Best Regards, Charles E. (Chuck) Miller, Chairman, IDRC 2010 [email protected] |
