Greetings NIR Enthusiasts!

This is a quick reminder that the 2010 International Diffuse Reflectance Conference (IDRC, or the "Chambersburg" Conference) is creeping up around the corner- beginning in less than three months' time! This year's Conference retains it's long-standing affordability, and promises to be particularly engaging, with many of the long-standing "traditional" elements mixed in with some new elements and new faces. Some of these will include:

Contributed Poster Session: including at least two monetary poster awards in each of two categories: student and senior researcher (see Call for Posters: http://idrc-chambersburg.org/posters.html)
An offering of six pre-conference short-courses, taught by experienced industry leaders (http://idrc-chambersburg.org/courses.html)
Awards: IDRC 2010 will include the presentation of TWO prestigious awards: The Gerald S. Birth Award, to be presented to Prof. David Burns of McGill University, and the Tomas Hirschfeld Award, to be presented to Dr. James Reeves of the USDA.
Software Shootout: Karl Norris has donated an interesting dataset on whole blood NIR transmission and reflectance for the Shootout- stay tuned for details
7 plenary technical sessions covering a diverse range of important sub-topics of diffuse reflectance spectroscopy- including Process Analytical Technologies (PAT), Medical Diagnostics, and Chemometrics
"Beer's Law Challenge": get ready for a different technical session format for the "Physics of Diffuse Reflectance" session (I recommend reading up on Beer's Law beforehand..)

Of course, this will all be done in a traditional IDRC manner, that promotes informal discussion in a relaxed environment.

Call for Posters!: Although all plenary talks are invited, poster presentations have long been an important and relevant part of IDRC, and we strongly encourage all interested parties to submit their latest work as a poster presentation. No proceedings or abstracts will be published, thus encouraging folks to present their latest unpublished work.

All conference details are posted on the conference website (http://idrc-chambersburg.org/). This site will be updated as more details become available.

If you have not yet considered IDRC as part of your conference plan this year, please give us a look. As in past years, IDRC 2010 is designed to be a highly-affordable conference that delivers great value. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at [email protected]

Best Regards,
Chuck Miller, Chairman, IDRC 2010

Transportation:
Wilson College is less than a two-hour drive from Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, MD, and less than three hours from Philadelphia and Pittsburgh PA. Commonly-used airports include
those servicing these cities and Harrisburg PA (1 hour drive away). Ride sharing is commonly practiced, and the Conference will attempt to match all arriving attendees with available drivers at each of these airports.

Housing:
The Conference is held on the 300-acre campus of Wilson College in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in south central Pennsylvania. Chambersburg is a charming town with an interesting history. On-site accommodations include a clean, well-supplied dormitory room, all meals, and access to various recreational activities. Although these accommodations are very conducive to obtaining the maximum experience from the Conference, it should be noted that most of the rooms are not
air-conditioned. Alternate hotel accommodations are available nearby, and more information on these will be available later.

Registration:
If you are interested in attending the Conference, or wish to obtain updated circulars on the Conference, please e-mail:
[email protected]

On-line registration will be available (starting in January 2010) at WWW.IDRC-CHAMBERSBURG.ORG

Early registration discounts are available if
payment is received before June 30, 2010.
