Dear all,

I work for a company that deals in providing applications for forensics, neo-natal, genomics and pharmeceutical labs.

Part of what we do is the scanning and punching of blood samples on filter paper into wells for further analysis.

As a result, there is a requirement that the blood spots have to be relatively dry in order to decrease the likelihood of cross-contamintaion.

I am currently looking at the possibility of using NIR scanners to help determine if the blood samples are sufficiently dry in order for scanning and further processing. Does anyone know of an off-market supplier or manufacturer that produces such equipment at relatively low cost? The companies I've spoken to all have big, bulky equipment that weighs a ton and cost in the order of over 50 grand. Not exactly the stuff you could provide to Third World Countries.

Also, does anyone know of any drawbacks in using NIR for scanning the moisture level in blood samples as such? Any information would be great.

Thanks!

Semper Fi - Joel
