Dear Praghadeesh;
Seen your question .No doubt that 6500 with optical probe is better .In India CEERI Chennai is working in the area of NIRS(R&D) on-line measurement more than a decade. We have latest system and good tools. We have worked with IIT(M) ,CSMDRIA Chenai and have credit of good publication in NIRS. Now our Centre one of the representative in ASIAN NIR CONSORTIUM (ANC). Please join with along NIR work groups in INDIA.
We will weclome people like you to Join NIRS

The 5000 is NIR only 1100-2500 nm

The 6500 has a second detector for 400-1100 nm.

hi.
I am Msc student about to start my research part in developing reliable calibration of nirs for various biochemical parameters like oil, moisture, protein,fatty acid and sinapine in rapeseed. this discussion forum had solved many of my questions starting from literature collection till date. right now i am involved in sample collection for calibration.i got two questions for which i couldn find answers..

1. my institute had placed order for NIRS 6500 module from FOSS, but we have been provided with NIRS 5000 module by mistake, which will be replaced as per the order shortly.. mean time i have been asked for a report regarding the two modules and advantages of the latest module.. i have acquired some basic knowledge about these modules.. i need help in pin pointing the difference which is highly important for my research proposal..
2.regarding samples, i have not decided either to use whole seeds (in ring cup) or single seeds with the help of slits(5 mm dia) provided by foss. I assume that 5 mm slit will not suit my purpose. Is there is any possibility to make indigenous slits based on requirement and whether it will influence the calibration? i require some guidelines regarding samples and single seed analysis ..
could someone can clear my doubts or point out some sources to tune up my research in a better path..

Praghadeesh,
Msc.Biochemistry,
Ludhiana, Inida.
