...hi,

we are mainly working in the field of material characterisation (polymers, surfaces, nanomaterials)
and bioanalysis (tissue).
Both IR and NIR imaging is conducted, IR for tissues and NIR mainly for the materials......

thanks for answering...

Nick

Hi Nick,

My colleagues and I have recently had to go through the task of specifying an instrument similiar to yourself and the main question is 'what do you want the instrument to do?'.

In order to best answer this question, you will need to be very specific in deciding on how you are going to approach your specific task. You should consider the 6 "W's" - Who, What, Where, When, How and Why. These questions should be applied to each stage of the task that you want to perform eg: sample gathering, sample preparation, presentation of the sample to the instrument, the kind of information you want from the instrument, etc and will help to shape your final requirements for the instrument that you require. You should also consider the fact that when you specify an instrument for analysis, you are essentially creating a partnership between yourself and the instrument supplier and this 'relationship' needs to work the best for you.

As you have not made your task very clear, it will be difficult for anybody to state which instrument will best suit your needs (people will have a preference for instrument or manufacturer based on their own experience - but this may not be suitable for your use). My colleagues and I discounted both of these manufacturers as they were unable to come anywhere near the instrument requirements necessary for our task, yet both are strong players in the instrumentation market and we would have no hesitation in purchasing other types of analytical equipment from them.

I would suggest that you provide more information on the task that you want to perform. This may enable other members of the forum to give a more informed answer to your problem as they may have personal knowledge and experience that could be beneficial to you.

Mark
