Just to throw in some more, to edge towards completeness. Phil Clancy's NIR Technology Systems introduced the Sameness Meter at Pittcon 2006. There are at least two Japanese companies (Kubota and Fantec) that produce hand-held instruments. They were described in articles in the "Celebration of NIR" special issue of NIR news from 2005. This can be downloaded free from http://www.impublications.com/discus/special/index.html

Ahmed - several companies in addition to ASDI make small, portable instruments; these include (in alphabetical order): ASDI, Aspectrics, Axsun, Brimrose, Control Development, Infrared Fiber Systems, Polychromix, and Zeltex.

Not all of these instruments would necessarily be suitable for your application, but you can discuss those aspects with the manufacturers.

Dear NIRS experts, would you please suggest me a type of portable NIR instrument suitable for meat/fish quality analysis (I will be very happy if the instrument weight within 2kg). I know about the FUN-TEC (fruit analyser) but searching another good one.
