The price has stayed the same for more than a year now. I wonder whether they will actually send it or not.

It is a once in a lifetime possibility to purchase "Near-Infrared Spectrometry" by WF McClure for just 0.95 pounds (I guess for a very limited time only).

WF McClure
"Near-Infrared Spectrometry"
Hardcover 350 pages (August 11, 2006)
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons Inc
ISBN: 0471186139

Please use the link below to make sure I am not making this up:

I clicked on the link although I noted that it was NOT amazon.com. The entry is there, with the price Dennis notes.

Then I went to amazon.com, and did a search using the search terms McClure and Spectroscopy. There were two hits, one of which was the book Dennis indicated. However, the price listed there was $115 and the book is scheduled to be released January 23, 2006 (I'm sure that's an estimted date).

So what Dennis found is obviously an error, although probably not a scam (as I initially suspected). The question, of course, is whether they will honor the price displayed for an order entered now, once they realize their mistake. Who knows? As long as it's not a scam I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try.

Howard

As for me, the most interesting thing about this case is actually the number of orders accepted by their system before the moment they realize they have made a mistake. There is no doubt they will not sell the book for the price indicated. If they did, it would mean that someone from the UK could easily order more than 20 items and qualify for the so-called "Super Saver Delivery".

The funniest thing is that they claim to be selling a 350 pages book with (as far as I know) a supplementary disk for the price of a chewing gum. They could have easily tracked these sorts of unreal mispricings electronically. I hardly believe any scientific book at Amazon.co.uk has ever been rated cheaper (even though mistakenly) than the book in question.
The only phrase missing would be similar to "Through the generosity of a gift..."

By the way,

Has to do with the same book but "Barnes & Noble" at this time.

According to the date of publication Fred McClure was the pioneer in the NIR field (I guess even before he was born):

Well, Fred, what kind of nefarious schemes were you up to in 1906?

On the other hand, if you've invented a time-travel machine just so you could claim priority on discovering NIR, I think it's a rather unfriendly act not to let your old buddies know about it!

Or were you back there teaching Herschel and Coblentz and Whetsel what it is they should be discovering?? :-)

Have a good holiday season, all!!
