Dear all,

I have two question related to the sample properties and measurement modes used in near infrared.
First: Where can I found a good explantion about sample properties vs measurement mode in NIR?

Second: There is any possibilities of Far IR when performing NIR analysis either using a determinate maesurement mode or a certain type of sample?

I thank you in advance.

Claudia.

Dear all,

I have heard of methods to use NIR spectrometry to measure pH of solutions.
Is it true or not? is it a direct method or an indirect one?

Thanks

Riccardo

Riccardo - well, it's sort of true. Anything that will dissolve in water will affect the structure of the water, and therefore the spectrum. The main problem regarding pH is that everything else that affects the water structure, including physical effects such as temperature, as well as chemical effects, such as the presence of ions will also change the water structure and therefore interfere. Also, since pH is a logarithmic measurement, until the pH is less than say, 2, the actual concentration is not enough to detect directly in any case.
