Forrest

Mathworks offers a MatLab toolbox for EMSC that is based on Harald Martens code. I suggest you contact them and/or Harald Martens ([email protected])for more information.

Thanks for your response.

I won't be able to make it to the meeting, however I am still curious about EMSC. I'm not an Unscrambler user. I stick with Matlab and usually write my own programs. Would you recommend a good paper, etc. that would give all the information neccesary to write an adequate EMSC program?

Hi Forrest,

Yes, the procedure caught my eye, and I am a big pre-processing fan. I have had good success in a number of applications, and I am very impressed in the results. What software are you using? I find that the "Help" in Unscrambler is singularly unhelpful. The key to success is to use a good difference spectrum for the analyte, that subtracts the other component(s) and does not itself contain an appreciable scattering effect.

I am teaching a half-day short course on pretreatments August 6 at the IDRC meeting in Chambersburg, and I plan to spend about 1/3 the time on EMSC, I think it is that novel and important. Please excuse my plugging this meeting, but if you don't know about it, it is the best conference (in my opinion) for meeting people and discussing spectroscopy of diffusely scattering samples. See http://www.idrc-chambersburg.org/ for descriptions of other short courses and the complete program. I believe there is still time to register for the meeting and short courses.

I hope this helps.

Best wishes,
Dave

Has anyone had any luck with extended multiplicative scatter correction (EMSC)? I'm not a big preprocessing fan, but this one caught my eye. However, some of the EMSC papers I'm looking at are poorly written and it looks like this preprocessing is fairly complicated.
