We have now got everyone registered on the new Forum. You should have received an automated e-mail from us with your new account details. (If you already have an account as a subscriber, Editor or in another capacity, you can use that account to access the Forum.) If you have not received the e-mail, first, please check your spam/junk mail folder, since these sorts of communications seem to end up there rather easily. If you still cannot find it or the one-time login link has expired, then please go to http://www.impublications.com/user/password and enter the username from this (old) Forum. You will then be able to set your own password and log in.

I will shortly be locking the old forum so that no new posts can be made. So, if you wish to post, please do so from now on in the new Forum, which can be found at http://www.impublications.com/forums/nir-discussion-forum.

As promised, I have put together a page detailing the usage of the new Forum, this is at http://www.impublications.com/content/using-new-nir-discussion-forum. You may want to read through this before making a post, and certainly please do so if you have any difficulty. I know things are different, but I believe that this is an important step forward, and I hope you will agree once you have had time to get used to it.

I have mentioned before here and to some of you in person that the current software used to run the Forum is old and no longer maintained, leading to potential security problems. We, therefore, will move to a new platform. After weighing up various options, we have opted for the forum software built into the Drupal application used to run impublications.com. With a few configuration adjustments, this can replicate the current functionality, is easier for us to maintain and integrates with the website, which we hope will bring increasing benefits in the future.

What is happening is:

1. We are setting up new accounts for all those who have logged into the forum in the last two years. (Some of you may already have accounts on impublications.com, as subscribers or editors, and we will contact you individually.) These will use your existing Forum username, but a new password: sorry there is no way around this! You will, or may have already, receive an automated e-mail as we create your new account. This will contain your username and a one-time link that will enable you to set your password. I recommend that you use the link to log in, change the password to one of your choosing and check you are happy with some of the default settings as described in the e-mail.

2. Once we have created the new accounts, we will choose a date to lock the old Forum and open the new. The old one will still remain accessible and searchable but you will not be able to make any new postings. If there are any particularly active discussions under way, we will probably recreate these on the new Forum.

3. We will send you all an e-mail reminding you of this and with the link to the new Forum, which will also be in the menu structure of impublications.com once we go live.

Whilst we will do all that we can to make the transfer easy, some of you are going to have some frustrations. I will be putting together a document detailing how to use the new Forum in the ideal way and how your account and its settings work. However, I am sure that the new Forum will be better once we have all got used to it! For instance, uploading images and other files should be much easier and more predictable: something that has caused a few problems on the old Forum. There will be a simple editor for writing your posts so it will be easier to format text if you wish to do so.
