Dave,

You will forgive me as I just created an account today and did not even know that my email address would/could be hidden.

I have changed my preferences.

I actually meant to include my email address so that any information could be forwarded to me easily. It is [email protected]

Thank you, in advance, for any assistance you can give,

Best,
Moses

Moses,

Yes, but you will have to provide your email address. I am unhappy that so many people want to get help in this discussion group, but so few are willing even to provide their contact information. I think the contact information ought to be available on everyone, so that we can all judge any hidden agendas.

Sorry, but your "hidden address" touched a nerve.

Regards,
Dave Hopkins

David,

I too have been looking for cholesterol spectra for a experiment we are trying. Could you please send me your data as well. I would, of course, credit you if our work bears out.

Best,
Moses

HI David,

Again, I want to thank you for the cholesterol spectra. I was wondering, could you send me the spectra below 800nm? I'm very interested in seeing the bands that you obtained.

Thanks!

Regards,

MSDRDR

HI David,

Thank you very much for the cholesterol scans. And thank you for the explanation, that was very helpful.

Yes, please do go ahead and send me the actual scan data. Also go ahead and send me the data for the wavelength region below 800nm, I'd like to see those bands ( I understand that you don't trust them, but I'd like to see them anyway.)

my email is [email protected]

Regards,
MSDRDR

Hi Moon Sun,

I don't know what use you are going to make of the spectra, but if use them for furhter purposes, I would appreciate it if you would give me credit. The scans took some effort to make.

I made a special adaptor that was 0.53 mm thick of black polyethylene, with a rectangular opening 9 x 25 mm that accommodates the measuring beam in a Foss/NIRSystems model 6500. This unit measures from 400 to 2498 nm at 2 nm intervals, with a spectral bandwidth of about 10 nm. A sample of 74 mg cholesterol was placed in the adaptor between 2 quartz windows in a specially adapted sample cell, so that I could record either reflection or transmission scans from the same sample. At the higher wavelengths, the transmission exceeds 2 absorbance units, so the spectra are apparently flattened due to a small amount of stray light. Therefore the reflection spectra give the best detail at 1100 to 2498 nm.

However, the bands are so low in intensity that the transmission scans give better results at lower wavelengths, and scattering causes the transmission scans to lie above 1 absorbance unit. The spectra below 800 nm do not show any bands I would trust.

I hope you will find the uploaded powerpoint of use. If you would like the actual scan data, please send me your email address.

Best wishes,
David Hopkins

HI,

Thank you very much for this. Actually I also found this in my google search. But the spectra are from 1200nm onwards, whereas I am in need of spectra in the 650-1000nm range. Any other suggestions? I really appreciate the help.

HI,

I am in need of the spectra of cholesterol in the NNIR range of 650-1000nm. Does some one have this spectra? Or does someone know where I can search to obtain this spectra?

I would really appreciate your feedback.

Regards,

MSDRDR
