Tuneable erbium-doped fibre laser-based spectrometer for trace gas detection in the near infrared

Advances in optical telecommunication have spurred the development of continuous-wave (cw) tuneable lasers in the near infrared (NIR) around 1.55 µm. This article looks at the advantages of using such devices as NIR sources and at applications in trace gas analysis by cavity ring down spectroscopy.
