NIR spectroscopy is a powerful tool for measuring blood oxygenation and haemoglobin content non-invasively. However, quantification of these values in vivo is nearly impossible without an accurate measure of the optical pathlength. This article describes a novel method for measuring relative pathlength values in heart tissue.
