Korea invests in NIR for rice labelling control

The Korean National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service (NAQS) has purchased 49 units of the Foss Infratec 1241 near infrared (NIR) grain analyser. The order follows the purchase of 70 instruments in 2011. All 119 instruments will be used to handle new rice labelling regulations that take effect in November 2012. Specifically, the Infratec will be used to check that the protein content of rice complies with the figures stated on labels.

Foss has also supplied its Mosaic internet networking software. This links individual instruments to a central hub from where they can be monitored and managed by NIR experts.
